"LAUS DEO"

(Author Unknown)

On the aluminum cap atop the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. are two words: Laus Deo. No one can see these words. In fact, most visitors to the monument have no idea they are even there and, for that matter, probably couldn't care less! But there they are 555 feet, 5.125 inches high, perched atop the monument to the father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia - capital of the United States of America.

The Love of God

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Rom. 5:8). "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”

Throughout the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John we see Jesus perform many miracles.

In a sense, our nation was born on this day in 1776. May we and our children never forget the sacrifices of our forefathers by which we are able to live in this "land of the free and the home of the brave.

“Backsliding”

Jeremiah 2:19

June 2019

“Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing That you have forsaken the LORD your God, And the fear of Me is not in you, Says the Lord GOD of hosts.”

It is easy to learn from this passage of Scripture that the Lord is quite displeased with Israel for their backsliding. He tells them it is an evil and bitter thing that they have forsaken Him. He identifies that they no longer fear Him. The writer of Hebrews says plainly, “Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
