The Importance of Prayer

James 5:16/1 Thessalonians 5:17

Tragedy, sickness, danger, and hardship. These are the times people choose to pray. This is not the only time we should be praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to “pray without ceasing.” Prayer should be a part of our everyday life.

In Romans 12 God lists many characteristics of how a Christian is supposed to live. Verse 12 of this chapter tells us we are to continue in prayer. Ephesians 6:18 says “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit,”

Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons in our arsenal as Christians. James 5:15-16 says that prayer can heal the sick and forgive sins. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Prayer works!! We have to pray, but as James 5:16 says, and Proverbs 15:29, we need to stay righteous for our prayers to be effective.

There are also other reasons for prayer. Giving thanks (Ephesians 1:15-16), forgiveness (1 John 1:7-9), healing (James 5:15-16), times of trouble (James 5:13), strength (Matthew 26:41), and so much more.

Prayer is an essential part of our walk as Christians. There is no way to speak to God or to grow without it. We MUST pray!!
